Thanks Maplemoth662! Although many see wasps as a pest or worse, I still see the complexity and beauty of nature's creatures.
The envelope around the nest rules out the genus Polistes. This is either Vespula (ground-nesting yellowjackets) or Dolichovespula (aerial-nesting yellowjackets).
