ground spider

Urozelotes rusticus

Description:

This is a ground hunting spider. Its resting web nests are permanently kept under our garbage can lids. This color pattern of red and grey is common among spiders. This is a medium sized spider over 1cm. The name i chose is based on the reflective property of the eyes which would be able to see polarized light and its regional distribution and large forward facing most prominent eye pair. There are several other medium sized species in different genera that look very similar. They all belong to the same family GNAPHOSIDAE, the stealthy ground spiders.
