Johan is correct. This is definitely a Robber Fly.

Sadly, this was the only shot I got. I was about to get into my car this morning when I saw this on the roof of my bug (ironic, no?) - I was fishing in my pocket for my homebrew macro lens while taking my iPhone out of its case so I could attach it. I was only able to get this one in focus before it flew away. The sun wasn't completely up yet, so it's not the best lighting, either. Something about the color of my yellow Beetle - it tends to attract flies and wasps - so hopefully he/she will return tomorrow.

It's a robber fly, but will need more photos to ID this.
