March Fly

Scaptia sp.

According to the Australian Museum, March Flies are found near fresh water creeks, mangroves & intertidal estuaries habitats. This March fly, however, was in the middle of the suburb.

Adult March Flies feed on nectar & it is only the females that feed on blood which they require for development of their eggs.
