Mercenaria mercenaria
up to 3 1/2 inches wide
spotted in the Indian River
These clams were wild caught in the river and are being held in a suspended basket for future use. Clams are filter feeders, ingesting huge amounts of water each day, removing algae and other microscopic food, then expelling the filtered water.
