Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Description:

A magnificent bird. 30-31" large blackish-brown eagle with a white head and yellow bill and feet. White tail. I was surprised to see this Bald Eagle in my back yard yesterday. They are not very common, however, we have been seeing more of them each year. The last two images are marking in snow of the eagle catching prey.

Habitat:

Usually over open water because they eat fish. This area is forested with open field.

Notes:

In winter they are spotted over almost any large body of water.
