Mallard Duck

Description:

Small to medium sized wild duck. The male has the distinctive green head with a white collar. The female, often mistaken for a wood duck, has a blue patch near the back of the wing, but is otherwise brown and tan speckles.

Notes:

These ducks mate for life, and the male is very territorial when other males approach his mate.
