Miner's Lettuce

Claytonia perfoliata

Description:

Very small white flowers, about 5mm across, in the middle of a pair of thick, fleshy leaves that appear as one circular (ish!) leaf. This flower is not native to the UK, but to the western coastal and mountain regions of North America.

Habitat:

Enjoys damp, slightly shaded areas (see the last picture for where this patch was growing)

Notes:

This patch was found under a big yew tree on the University of Essex campus grounds, near to one of the lakes.
