European Bee-eater

Merops apiaster

Description:

They are back :) Sorry for the poor quality of the shot they are just out of range of my lens. It was only last May that we noticed the Bee-eaters flying over our house in Turkey. A week ago they arrived back, for 5 of the 7 days I was able to spot them in the morning between 11am and midday. They are in a group of around 20 birds you hear their calls which is a distinctive trill, before you see them, and they keep circling around as they fly over. Then again around 3 to 4pm they fly over again almost on the same flight path but in reverse, but this time they are not circling around as they fly over but really seem to be on a mission to get to where they are going.
