Manila palm, Christmas Palm

Description:

The manila palm, also commonly known as the Christmas palm, is part of the Arecaceae family. Manila palms have light-brown trunks with stacks of dark brown, horizontal lines. Between the light-green crownshaft and the trunk are clusters of red-skinned fruits shaped like grapes. The leaves are pinnate, arched, and are slightly darker than the crownshaft. Manila palms can grow between 20-25 feet.

Habitat:

Manila palms grow well in lower elevations and in full light. This plant was found in Easter Seals Hawai'i.

Notes:

Manila palms are neither endemic, indigenous, or native to Hawai'i. They are native to the Philippines and Malaysia.
