Painted Lichen Moth

Hypoprepia fucosa

Description:

Four different individuals. Please take a look at the images to see the variation even within the same population. One of my favorite moths of the summer. This small, colorful moth is easy to identify, though it has interesting regional color and pattern variations. Here are a couple from Long Island, New York that I spotted: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/925... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/537...

Habitat:

Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky. Attracted to lights at night.
