Diospyros texana

Description:

Bark is very smooth, grey, with thin layers flaking off. Intricately branched, smooth barked shrub or tree up to 40 ft.

Notes:

Diospyros, is translated "fruit of the gods." Though small and full of seeds, when ripe, the fruit is sweet and juicy. The black juice is used to dye skins in Mexico. Texas persimmon is in the same family as the African ebony.
