Owlet Moth

Anticarsia irrorata

Description:

Noctuidae; Anticarsia; Anticarsia irrorata (Fabricius, 1781). There seems to be some conflicting information concerning the classification of this moth. Wikipedia places it in the Noctuidae, whereas Philippine Lepidoptera places it in Erebidae; Eulepidotinae. Since both sources are highly reputable, I can only assume that there is some revision of the taxonomy at work here and either Wiki or PhiLep (I don't know which) has not caught up with the changes. For my purpose, here, the most important part of the classification is simply the species name and there is no problem with that.

Habitat:

This Owlet Moth was spotted in a dense tangle of foliage, mostly Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides). Plant identification - http://www.stuartxchange.com/Bulak.html
