Bald eagle (juvenile - being mobbed by a boat-tailed grackle)

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Description:

This juvenile bald eagle was being well & truly seen off by a tiny (in comparison) boat-tailed grackle. Birds that breed in colonies are widely seen to attack intruders. The birds that most frequently engage in mobbing include mockingbirds, jays, chickadees, and blackbirds. Through mobbing, birds force predators to seek something less troublesome. Behavior includes flying about the intruder, dive bombing, loud squawking and defecating on the predator.

Habitat:

Reelfoot lake, Tennessee
