Goat's Foot

Ipomoea pes-caprae

Description:

Mauve and purply flowers carpeting parts of the beach. The deeply bi-lobed leaves give it the name.

Habitat:

Miramar beach, Goa, where is growing on sand! Wikipedia says, "It is one of the most common and most widely distributed salt tolerant plants and provides one of the best known examples of oceanic dispersal."

Notes:

It grows just above the high tide line along coastal beaches. Since it grows like a carpet it helps to stabilize the sand.
