Ichneuman Wasp

Megarhyssa sp.

Description:

It was depositing eggs into the tree in my backyard...fascinating to watch the process. Three seasons in a row I have spotted one on the same hackberry tree.

Thanks! There is something about that tree (a hackberry) that they really like - have spotted them depositing eggs for the past three falls...

Based on your location, this is either M. greenei or M. macrurus. Nice spotting!
