Pinktail Triggerfish (humumumu hi'u kole)

Melichthys vidua

Description:

Dark brown with a white and pink tail. Dorsal and anal fins are clear or whitish and the pectorals are yellow. Grows to 13 inches.

Habitat:

Indo-Pacific and Eastern Pacific reefs. Feed on drifting algae and plankton and sometimes other fish. Usually skittish and quick to hide, the females are bolder when protecting the nest and have been known to bite.
