Wet Dog Trillium

Trillium erectum var. album

Description:

Trillium erectum usually has dark reddish purple petals, but this rare variety has pale yellow petals with green veins. As its common name suggests, it really does smell like a wet dog. The smell attracts its pollinators - carrion flies.

Habitat:

Spotted in a deciduous, marshy forest. There were three Trillium erectum var. album clustered together.
