Black-necked Stork

Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus

Description:

The Black-necked Stork, is the only stork found in Australia. It is a tall bird with a black and white body, dark green and purple neck and large black bill. The legs are long and coral-red in colour. The male has black eyes and the female has yellow eyes. Immature birds resemble adults, but the black parts are more brown in colour. Size: 1.3m tall

Wetland

Notes:

Food: fish, small crustaceans and amphibians Breeding: nest is a large platform of sticks and other vegetation in a tall tree near water. Lays 2-4 eggs.
