Exema gibber
As if it's not bad enough being in a family that's described as "warty" this particular little guy (only 3 mm long) has the added embarrassment of being a species called "exema" - OK the spelling's different but it still sounds like a nasty skin condition!
Meadow
This is the second species of warty leaf beetle I've found - the other one was a little more attractive http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/105... I appear to have cornered the market on these, as these are the only examples so far in the PN collection!

You would be more than welcome here Aaron! Bring Mrs G with you!
If that's the case, I definitely need to visit! Plus, you've got a lot of salamanders that I need to see!
Thanks for your kind comment Leuba!
Thanks Brandon! Tennessee is a haven for weird, wonderful & downright bizarre bugs!
Awesome spot! Congrats on having the only two warty exema skin condition crazy looking zipper bugs on PN! ;-)
these are very very cool!
I'm strangely drawn to him too Neil!
I'm really happy with my Raynox clip on macro converter - It costs $70 from Amazon & fits most cameras & is so quick to put on & take off. I think the results are pretty good for the price!
interesting beetle ! - he looks like a seed pod - half Casuarina half Hakea. The inner margin looks zippered. Great photo Karen !!
I like this little guy. (I need a Macro Lens!!!)
Thank you Gerardo & Anne Marie!
Sergio, shhhh it's a secret, don't tell anyone! :)
Look at this guy grate spotting
Be true, Karen, you dressed that poor guy that way just for these photos, right? I can see the zipper on its back in the last photo!!!!
Fantastic beetle - great find.
Thank you Cindy, Carol & harsuame!

Ouch, that is unfortunate :) Cool spotting!
