Description:

Spotted in San Sebastián de la Selva, a nature reserve in Misiones, Argentina. This is a very large woodpecker which is a resident breeding bird from Mexico south to northern Argentina and on Trinidad. It was relatively easy to find the bird, because the noise he made was quite audible. It was a matter of following the sound.

Habitat:

The habitat of this species is forest borders and other open woodland.
