This spotting is of a Red Stinkhorn (Phallus rubicundus). I don't think the Blueswani reference is correct. Try this link - http://www.mushroomexpert.com/phallus_ru... or do an image search for P. rubicundus and P. multicolor. I think you'll see the difference between the two species. That's where I'd put my money, but someone else may be able to confirm this also. Nice spotting by the way.
