Small (the larger had a cap diameter of < 5 cm) white mushrooms with white stems and pale yellow gills.
Mixed native and alien lowland mesic forest.
Spotted growing in ironwood (Casuarina sp.) litter beside Palehua Trail just north of Mauna Kapu on Oahu. The larger individual had a deformed stem; the smaller seemed either to have had its growth stunted by the layer of Casuarina litter in which it emerged or to have been spotted before it fully developed.

Interesting ! I thought you spotted the mushroom roughly two weeks before posting it. Anyway, as you perhaps know we'd like spottings/specimens on PN to be identified along with information unique to the species. It's fine if you are not able to provide any more information. 007 is fine with me!!
It's a lovely story that you visited the place with your father all those years ago. Reminds me of my childhood.
Right. Now pay attention, 007.
Q-rious, but I couldn't resist that. Sorry.
First, I appreciate the kind remarks. Second, some history about the locale. I first made the cited hike about 50 years ago with my late father; access/entrée was easier in those long-ago days. Third, current info. The hike is now only invitation. I've been invited to make the hike twice recently (2003 and earlier this month) courtesy of my daughter, who has the necessary connections.
I don't see myself going back any time soon, so even if, which I doubt, the mushroom is still there, I won't be.
Bottom line: there will be, can be, no overhead views of the cap.
10,000 gomenasais.
The cap appears to a have a yellowish colouring ?? Hope someone can ID it. I love seeing mushrooms amongst pine needles but don't often get to see them amongst casuarina needles. Nice spotting - would love to see a shot of the cap from above. Thanks for the information Allen.
