Description:

Tropical almond, Dipterix panamensis. Fabaceae. Endemic species, an extraordinary hard wood; it is considered one of the heaviest woods around the world. Reason why, few of them were cut at Tortuguero, they were not going to floated as well as it was hard to saw due the density, it is threatened as now it is possible to cut with special saw machines, this tree has absolute protection in CR; So, most of the wood comes from Nicaragua, the fruits of this tree, is one of the Great Green Macaw favorite food; protection of this tree is suggest in Nicaragua as the tree is in danger of extinction.
