This is one of the largest ants that I have ever seen. It is about the same size as a velvet ant measuring about 5/8" long!

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 4 weeks into the rain season.

Thank you for the I.D. Jonathan! Glad you all enjoyed the spotting. This is the first time I saw these ants here....maybe because I wasn't looking! However, I saw two individuals in the course 15 minutes. They never stopped moving and this was the only passable shot I got of nearly 20!
