Stonefly

Neoperla sp.

Description:

Yellow insect with dark veining on the wings. Grayish markings on either side of the prodonum. Grayish areas on leg and upper 3/4 of antennae. Black eyes.

Habitat:

Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky. Attracted to lights at night.

Thank you for your input Livan! I agree that the markings don't match any of the ones in Isoperia, though the color is pretty close. I decided to submit this to Bug Guide and it has been moved to Genus Neoperla. BG says that there are 15 species in our area but they only have three species represented that are IDed to species level.

I think it may be a Genus Isoperla stonefly, but I didn't find any on bugguide that I thought were exactly. I don't know if it is significant but I notice yours has the edges of the pronotum darkened, and the ones on bugguide have parallel dark lines or areas in the middle of the pronotum.
