Mottled-head Gum-leafhopper

Eurymeloides punctata

Description:

Small hopper with mottled head, black glossy wings, a broad head, ornage-yellow eyes, white marks on legs. Approx. 7mm long. (Smaller than the Two-lined gum hopper)

Habitat:

Very active but shy within the deep crevices of the bark on a Eucalyptus tricarpa or Red Ironbark tree.

Notes:

This is superficially very similar to the Two-lined gum hopper which lives on the fine stems amongst gum leaves. It is much smaller however and much more active and seems to be 'working' the bark very energetically even though it is nearly winter and many others have gone quiet or just plain gone. There is a hopper at Brisbane insects I need to check for ID.
