A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Microcentrum rhombifolium
This Katydid was on the wall on the side of the house at the end of last summer. I did a bit of research and was able to identify her.
Angelica, it's ok. No harm done. You helped me find the right section of Katydids. It is in the same subfamily of False Katydids.
I was looking at your photo, actually, and I agree. It does look extremely similar to this one. I'm trying to find out if this species occurs in Brazil. I don't know and my resource only is for North American insects.
ForestDragon, I was not sure about the ID, so I posted the source of the ID I found out... I was kind of irresponsable, for it was my first suggestion on project noah (sorry :P)... In that day, something amazing happened: I saw a katydid very similar to that of yours, in my classroom. It may be the male for this Katydid, found in Brasil: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/108... . But im still have doubts about the species or if its male or female (no ovipositor, i think, but i don't know if it just doesn't appear in the photo...)
Angelica, thanks for the suggestion but I think I have the proper ID now. If you look closely, while similar, the Oblong-winged Katydid has a different shaped ovipositor and head. Thanks for looking! :)
