Diademed sifaka

Propithecus diadema

Description:

Sifakas are one of the largest types of lemurs and can not survive in captivity so are only found in the wild. They are also known as dancing lemurs because of their dance-like movements when they are on solid ground (although they only leave trees when it gets too hot). The diademed sifaka is considered the most beautiful due to its colouring. These were spotted in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. They were introduced to save the species. I have also uploaded a short video. Sifakas do not make much noise so the loud wailing you hear is actually that of the Indri (the largest lemurs).
