A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Archilochus alexandri
Adults are metallic green above and white below with green flanks. Their bill is long, straight and very slender. The adult male has a black face and chin, a glossy purple throat band and a dark forked tail.
The more western cousin of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the Black-chinned Hummingbird is associated with deciduous and evergreen oak woodlands, riparian forests, chaparral, desert washes, canyon bottoms and urban/suburban gardens. They are migratory and spend most of the winter in Mexico. Their breeding habitat is open semi-arid areas near water in the western United States, northern Mexico and southern British Columbia. The female builds a well-camouflaged nest in a protected location in a shrub or tree using plant fibre, spider webs and lichens.
This hummingbird was photographed by me in a fenced grotto as he enjoyed the feeder, he would perch just below the feeder and try to chase away any other hummer that came to visit.

Lovely series!
Welcome to Project Noah biologie.green!
Yes, heh heh! I guess he heard my camera. Not sure if he knew I was there at first because I was hiding behind a brick wall but once I started taking his pic he was on to me.
I love that third photo! It's spotting you!
