Red-banded Hairstreak

Calycopis cecrops

Description:

I hiked through a swarm of these little butterflies. They didn't look like much of anything to the eye- just a ton of small, dull grey butterflies, but I was impressed when I got to see them under higher magnification.

Habitat:

An open clearing on a wooded trail in the piedmont region of South Carolina.
