unidentified mushroom

Description:

Medium-sized (cap ~ 7 cm diameter, depressed) cream to light yellow colored mushroom with light yellow gills and white stem, ~ 7 cm height.

Habitat:

Mixed native and alien lowland mesic forest.

Notes:

Spotted growing alongside moss in dirt and ironwood (Casuarina sp.) litter at the base of a rock face next to Palehua Trail a couple of hundred meters north of Mauna Kapu on Oahu. The stem appears abraded. This was not noted at the time of the spotting, so it was not followed up by closer inspection.

Thanks Randy. I have followed your suggestion, and am awaiting feedback. Meanwhile, I followed up on your lead (Amanita species) and discovered that this spotting bears at least a superficial visual resemblance to pictures of Amanita marmorata var. myrtacearum in Hemmes and Desjardin, Mushrooms of Hawaii.

Looks like an Amanita species. I think the people on MushroomObserver.org might be able to help you narrow it down.
