Apostlebird

Struthidea cinerea

Notes:

I saw this bird at Miles in SE Queensland and stalked it for ages as I had never seen one before. It was with a bunch of mates, but this was the only one that hung around for me to take its picture. As it turned out they are EVERYWHERE in Central Queensland! They hang around in groups of 6-12 (which is, I suppose, why they are called Apostlebirds') and they make cute grumbly noises like the birds in Angry Birds. I like these birds a lot, they have heaps of personality. : )

Thanks everyone! From what I observed of their behaviour, it's quite unusual to see one sitting in a tree on its own like this. Most of the time when I saw them they were roaming the ground in packs looking for food. (Which is what this one was doing before I went over and started taking pics... its buddies all went higher up the tree but this one stayed on the lower branches.)
