Eastern Gray Squirrels and nest

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

Very common here. They come in a variety of color phases including black and albino and shades between. This gray with white underbelly is the most common color phase here.

Notes:

This family of squirrels were spotted in the park as I was walking to work. I believe the tree was a large oak of some type. There were at least four young squirrels and they ran for the hole as soon as I got near the tree.
