Achilid hopper

Dipsiathus obscurifrons

Description:

About 10-12mm long; parts of the wings are clear and the rest has complex lacy patterns including the face of a Portuguese explorer. Large eyes and extra bulges below with a tiny hair (like aristae?) like cicadas and planthoppers. Abdomen short, tapered pointy like cicada. Head not broad as for cicada types.

Habitat:

Hiding under a eucalyptus leaf in a local nature reserve.

Ha ha. Well coffee is almost always a good decision; however, it may be a while before an expert comes along ;)

Oh thanks heaps Cindy... just got back from the research I should have done before and got to the same point. I should have waited for an expert and made a coffee in the meantime... I'll learn. :-)

Beautiful shot! I believe this is a Cixiid Planthopper.
