The nearly endemic and quite uncommon Snowy-bellied Hummingbird’s clean white belly and its green chest are diagnostic within its range (Costa Rica and Panamá, sometimes also reported in northwest Colombia).
Habitat preferences vary significantly among the different populations. Those in Costa Rica and western Panama favor partially open areas including brushy savanna, open woodlands, second growth and gardens between 1800 and 2300 mts of elevation.
