Hibiscus

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Description:

Hibiscus flowers have large petals that come in many different colors. There are usually 5 petals and the most common colors are red, orange, yellow, and pink. Purple and white colors are more rare. There are severals seeds in each of the lobes. This type of hibiscus is not native to Hawaiʻi. It is claimed that there is a native hibiscus and the yellow one is the state flower. Some people say that it is a flower that Hawaiians and Tahitians like to wear. There are several species of hibiscus around the world. Some can be edible too. The leaves are alternate and ovate. They grow on woody shrubs or small trees.

Habitat:

This woody shrub with flowers can be found almost anywhere in the world. It can grow in sub-tropic and tropic regions. However, it is more common in the tropic regions of the world. This shrub was found in a moist atmosphere.

Notes:

The "native plant" is very rare in Hawaiʻi. However, this exact plant in the picture is found all over.
