Tiny Grass Blue

Zizula hylax pygmaea

Lycaenidae; Lycaeninae; Polyommatini; Zizula hylax pygmaea Snellen 1876. "(The Blues are) a cosmopolitan group of small, delicate butterflies, many of which exhibit iridescent or powdery blue dorsal wing surfaces, especially in males. The hindwings of Polyommatini tend to be evenly rounded."

The two Tiny Grass Blues were spotted in the rice mill backyard, a short distance from my house. This little patch of land is well shaded, from the tropical sunshine, by some Mango Trees and stands of Bamboo. There is a small stream which flows past one end. In the dry season it is no more than a trickle, but when the rains arrive, it becomes a raging torrent. There are house nearby, but nobody goes there. So the numerous species who inhabit this little wilderness enjoy the good life.
