Marmota monas
This groundhog was about 20" in size. They range from 17" to 24" long from head to rump. It is Minnesota's largest squirrel with short ears, short legs, bushy tail, salt and pepper fur on top and sides. The top of the head is dark and the underside a reddish brown, feet are black.
Spotted near the Cotton Lake boat access. This groundhog was running along the shoreline and even stood up on hind legs.
Woodchuck is also known as a Groundhog. In the winter they hibernate.
