Lemidia cf. quadricolor
A beautiful small beetle about 12 to 15 mm long. Head and thorax were orange with a pale orange band. Elytra was dark with short stiff setae giving it a shimmery look. The elytra had narrow orange bands; one at the base of and two near the apex. The elytra did not completely cover the abdomen. Legs were dark.
Possibly 6 to 7 antennal segment with the tips being club-shaped.
Spotted on a tree branch in a park. Not sure of the species of tree.
A very active beetle. My thanks to thaptor for assistance with the ID
Thank you so much for your help thaptor. I've put this one up on Bowerbird as a ? Lemidia sp. hoping someone can confirm.
Flickr group "Field guide to Insects of Australia" is the best ID resource I know, and they installed a browse engine:

once you know, it tooks a minute to get a match, if an insect is so distinctive as here. :-)
