Small Zebra Jumper

Plexippus petersi

Description:

Salticidae; Salticinae; Plexippus; Plexippus petersi Karsch, 1878. Wikipedia has lots of information on this little spider, including some pictures and a very detailed description. It is worth reading. All I need to say about my spotting is that it is a male, based on the distinctive black markings. I have seen one or two males which have dark brown markings (as mentioned in Wiki), but the great majority, in our area, appear to have markings which are quite black, like the specimen shown in my photos.

Habitat:

Spotted inside a chicken coop beside a farmhouse.
