You are not alone Cindy. I have this plant growing as an ornamental in my year. Most of it dies back during the 6 month dry season but there is a little tha hangs on. It does look very much like a heliconia. I thought it was heliconia when first introduced to it.

Beautiful! Was this in a garden or growing wild? My first thought was Helionia but I've never seen one like this. I'm sure someone else can ID it for you.
