Such a colourful bird. Green body. Blue throat. Red crown. Stumpy tail.
Belun village near Katwa, West Bengal. The tree was really, really tall and this bird was excavating a nest high up. We heard the drumming sound and saw it peck away. It would take short breaks and pose for us.
Photos are in reverse order i.e the sixth photo used here was shot first..

The system works for an amateur auto focus person like me...the faraway shot ensures I have a crop-able shot...proof. glad you liked the shots.
Glad he/she cooperated. I do the same with the order of pictures. I start taking pictures a long ways away and work closer as long as I can. Early on I lost too many shots by trying to make the first one perfect. Nice series Sukanya. Thanks.
