Boisea trivittata
Boxelder bugs are oval insects with brown-black color and bright orange lines along the outside of the wings. They have an average sized head with medium length antennae.
Spotted near the Tamarac Chippewa Picnic Area on Hwy 26. Boxelder bugs feed on herbaceous plants and seeds they find on the ground during spring and early summer. But then in mid-summer, they become true to their common name and move to female seed bearing Boxelder trees when they lay eggs on trunks, branches and leaves.
