Funereal Duskywing

Erynnis funeralis

Description:

Brown butterfly with white spots and light and dark brown markings on forewing. It has a white fringe along outer area of the hindwing. The wingspan is 34-45 mm in length.

Habitat:

Habitat: deserts, lowlands, and grassy areas. Range: "Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas south to Argentina. Strays north to northern Illinois, northeast Nebraska, central Colorado, southern Nevada, and central California." Ref: https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/spec...

Notes:

This pretty butterfly was found resting on a rock in a field of flowers. I love the white edging along the hindwing contrasted with the dark brown coloring of this butterfly! Fun Facts: Funereal Duskywings like to bask during cooler weather or on overcast days. This species often wraps their wings around the deadheads of flowers in order to camouflage themselves against predators. Ref: https://www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/No...
