White-faced Ibis

Pelgadis chihi

Description:

A White-faced Ibis in full breeding color ~ why it's called a White-faced when only a thread of white is visible is wierd but none the less a dapper looking bird!

Habitat:

found in and around marchy areas, fresh water ponds 'n lakes ... plays well with others, as evidenced by the little meet-up with the Ring-billed Gulls ~ who frequent the same bars and hang-outs

Notes:

This pic was taken at the Bowdoin Nat'l Wildlife Reserve (NWR) a few miles outside of Malta, Montana. It was a 2 day birding adventure ~ 250 miles north of Billings, MT ~ home. The Ibis shown is the same one in all pix ~ it flew to hang with the gulls after its first photo-op ~ to no doubt show the Gulls what a preening is all about... they watched and tried to emmulate this gorgeous bird.
