Carolina Mantis, female

Stagmomantis carolina

Description:

Mottled, light brown mantis with some green on the lower part of the legs. Darker banding can be seen on the front pair of legs (raptorial). Dark spot on the wings. Females have wings that do not reach the end of the abdomen and they are presumed to be flightless. The females of this species come in a variety of color variations between solid green, to brown, to gray (this one is almost pink). The Carolina Mantis is native to North America, Mexico and Central America.

Habitat:

Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky. Found on a wall at the Visitor Center.
