It's definitely an old animal, but as for sexing, I'd really need to see the underside and/or the tail.

The flat top of its shell makes me think it's probably a male. (Goody, what do you think?)

Oops, I think Goody is right; it's an Ornate Box Turtle, not an Eastern. Both species are found in Kansas.

Welcome to Project Noah! This is a great first spotting. From the looks of its beak, this turtle has been munching on something like mulberries. Cool factoid: the ornate box turtle is the state reptile of Kansas.
