Great Black Hawk

Buteogallus urubitinga urubitinga

Description:

Seen swooping over rice fields. I don't remember any behaviour except lazy swooping.

Notes:

It looks more like a Great Black Hawk than a Common one, however Richard ffrench's book says that there is considerable confusion distinguishing between the two because the Great Black Hawk is a rarer sight.

It looks more like a Great Black Hawk to me. The wings are wider on the Common then this photo. And the white band on the tail is also wider on the Great.

The Great also has contrasting colour on the wing, however the tail does not look like the Common Black Hawk. Are you sure?

Your bird has contrasting color on the wing and the Great does not.
