The males of this relatively large finch species are probably the most colourful birds we have in Norway. You cannot miss them with their bright red chest and black head. The females (like with so many other birds) are more camouflaged with their medium brown plumage.


Coniferous forests. More commonly seen in urban areas during winter when they emerge to feed on the bird feeders.
